Baby Update

Baby @ 9 Weeks

I am now 17 weeks pregnant and feeling much better. My good days are more frequent than the rough ones and my appetite is back in full swing. My current food obsessions are clementines, anything mint chocolate and cheese, although not at the same time! I have already surpassed my weight loss from being sick and have started packing on the pounds, unfortunately the last place the pounds show are in my belly. I am still waiting to pop!

Ryan and I went to my 16 week appointment last night (we are a week off on appointments from all of those appointments at the beginning of my pregnancy) and the baby had a strong heartbeat of 160 beats per minute. The nurse had to chase the baby around my stomach a bit to keep up with the heartbeat. He/she seems to be taking advantage of the ample space in my belly!

Due to my past pregnancy complications with Layla, we were scheduled to meet with the high risk doctor (it is a brand new doctor as my practice merged with a larger practice) around my nine week mark. The doctor was very funny and pointed to Layla in the chair and said, “This is the growth restricted baby we are talking about?” Ryan and I had to laugh as no one would ever guess now that Layla was growth restricted and was in the 5 pound range when she was born.

Anyway, we made a game plan for the third trimester of my pregnancy just in case we start to run into problems similar to Layla’s pregnancy. The high risk doctor assured us that we are less likely to run into a growth restriction again since we already experienced this with Layla’s pregnancy. I will have a special growth ultrasound at 28 weeks and the results from that ultrasound will determine the path for rest of my pregnancy. The doctor seemed very confident that all would be fine and said our ultimate goal is to get me as close to 40 weeks as possible. Now if I could just talk to him about not letting me go to 41 weeks….Layla’s birthday.

So all is well and that is the update on the little bambino. We are four weeks from finding out boy or girl, can’t wait!!!
